Below are our (Ann and my) recommended choices of dance venues for the month of May (Schedule/Info subject to change. Please watch for "UPDATES" and call venue for possible last minute changes).

PETER AND LAURA HAS INVITED ALL FELLOW DANCERS(past/present/young and old) AND FRIENDS TO A SPECIAL DINNER/DANCE EVENT ON FRIDAY, MAY 11@ MILWAUKIE ELKS !  LEE NICHOLAS WILL PROVIDE HIS WONDERFUL VARIETY OF MUSIC TO DANCE THE EVENING AWAY. IT WILL BE IN THE LARGE BALLROOM DANCE FLOOR  !  COST FOR DINNER & DANCE: $20;  DINNER; 6:30-8:00pm;  MUSIC;  7-10:30pm.   DANCE ONLY; COVER CHARGE: $5 pp.

IF PLANNING TO HAVE DINNER, RESERVATIONS PREFERRED TO INSURE SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF FOOD TO BE AVAILABLE.

Dear Dancers,

Come join a fun group of dancers every Sunday at Lenora's Ballroom, 615 SE Alder - lesson at 5pm, dancing and potluck 6 to 9pm.  Still only 
$7/person, or only $5 with dish for potluck!  In May, I will be teaching the  beautiful Viennese Waltz- including some American Style patterns - come
and try it!  May 20th come celebrate Mary Ann's birthday at a gala birthday party!
  

Mondays  at 7:30 at Paradise Studio I will be teaching the fun dance Quickstep, starting with the basic pattern, which is very easy - and progressing to
fun steps like the Fishtail - come join the fun!  Only $8 drop-in - save with a 4-week or 8-week card! 

Saturday May 5th at 7:30 I will be teaching Waltz at the 1st Saturday Dance at Paradise, sponsored by USADance.

Friday May 25th  at 7:30 I will be teaching  Cha-Cha at the TGIFF Dance at the Norse Hall, followed by dancing to the Pranksters Band til 11pm.

May 12th and 13th come root for our competitors Vidar and Cindy, and Les and Ellen at the Columbia Star Ball, held at the Jantzen Beach

PLEASE NOTE: "OUR CHOICE" indicates that if we were to make a choice of those dance venues available, we will most likely attend (less likely on Sundays), though we may not ("Not Cast in Stone") due to last minute changes.

---BILLY & THE ROCKETS @ THE ESTATES/WOODBURN  Located at 1776 Country Club Road, Woodburn. Dancing held at the Country Club Estates which is one of the nicest dance floors in the Northwest.  All ages welcome. Dances start at 7:30 p.m. and end at 10:30 p.m. Snacks and Refreshments are provided and the cost of admission to the general public is $6.00 per person. Live Dance Bands perform at the Estates. See above weekend dates for bands performing.  Call community center, 503  982-1776 OR 503 981-08159 (Evenings) for bands and additional information.  BILLY & THE ROCKETS is a little country twang, some southern Delta blues mixed with sweet gospel harmonies creates a dazzling potion that will start your toes tapping, and your heart racing! Billy and The Rockets is Rockabilly/Do-Wop styled the way it was meant to be played.

---BOOTHILL EXPRESS BAND @  NORTH PORTLAND EAGLES  located at 7611 N. Exeter, Portland.  503 286-8788.  Cover charge $6 pp.  Music is from 7:30-11:00pm.  Very nice large well maintained wood dance floor with lots of room to dance.  We have not danced to BOOTHILL EXPRESS BAND . In reviewing their website, it does not appear to be ballroom danceable music. Name of the band appears to be country-western music. http://www.boothillexpress.com/main.html.

Report from a fellow dancer that this band plays danceable ballroom music. If not an Elks member, a member must sign you in as their guest.

We have not danced to th band.  Music is from 7-11pm. Ann and I have not danced to this band. Report from a fellow dancer that this band plays noticeable ballroom music. If not an Elks member, a member must sign you in as their guest. 

---DA NADA BAND @ NORTH PORTLAND EAGLES located at 7611 N. Exeter, Portland.  503 286-8788 Cover charge $6 pp.  Music is from 7:30-11:00pm.  Very nice large well maintained wood dance floor with lots of room to dance. We have not danced to this band.

---FOOTLOOSE AND FRIEND @ MILWAUKIE ELKS located at 13121 SE McLoughlin Blvd. (503) 654-9580; Cover Charge: $6 pp. Music is from 8:00-12:00MN. We have not danced at this venue. 

---THE GENERATION BAND/BILL WAGONER @ BEAVERTON ELKS located at 3500 SW 104th Ave., Portland. (503) 646-6116;  $5 p/p Cover Charge. Large dance floor. Music is from 7:30-11:30pm.  THE GENERATION BAND play excellent danceable music.  If not an Elks member, a member must sign you in as their guest. 

---GSR MUSIC VENUE @ GATEWAY ELKS located at 711 NE 100th Ave., Portland. (503) 255-6535; ----This is a start of a new chapter in music at Gateway. A new music venue(GSR) will be implemented. GSR has 1,000's of songs to dance to: from Country to Jazz, Rock to Waltz, West to East Coast Swing. There's even Polka, if that's what you like!  Gateway is going to try something new. We are going to DJ. This means more options for the members who come to listen and dance. Plus, as an added bonus, we have the ability to open it up to Karaoke. The plan is to focus on dance music until at least 9pm or longer. As the night progresses, we will open the stage up to those who would like to sing. Don't let that stop you from dancing, though!  Why this change? We are looking for ways to keep the music going at the Lodge and to save some money. Plus it opens things up to all kinds of music. Music in it's original format. No more saying, "Hey, I love the band but they don't know an walt] music" or "I like country, but I also like 80's, 50's and 60's". Now we can have it all! If that were not enough, there is no special event fees the weekend that you see "GSR" on the calendar. Also, if you have songs that you like to hear and dance to... please make a list: Name of the song, who sings it, and what type of dance music it is. Bring in your list and if we have it we will play it for you, as time allows. Come on down and have join the fun.
